The 3rd Annual Surftech “SUP SHOOTOUT” at Steamer Lane is coming March 18th-20th!
Northern California’s premiere SUP surf contest is just 8 weeks away! The last two years the contest has been won by all around waterman Chuck Patterson, but locals have always used Lane knowledge to put in a strong showing. This is your chance to dethrone the champ!
The Shootout will be hosted at the epic arena of Santa Cruz’s world class surf spot, Steamer Lane. The Lane, known for its massive peaks and long, lined up walls, could be considered the ultimate high performance SUP surfing arena. The Shootout is part of the 25th Annual Santa Cruz PaddleFest. Registration for the Shootout opens Saturday, January 15th on Active.com.
AND there’s a SUP race, too?!?
Yup, this year Surftech and the PaddleFest are adding a SUP race – the Surftech Surf&Sand Duel-athon on Sat, March 19th. The Duel-athon combines two paddling laps totaling 6.2 miles, sandwiched between two beach runs totaling 1 mile.
The paddle course runs alongside the Santa Cruz Wharf where you’ll hear the local sea lions cheering you on, out to the Yacht Harbor, than back to the beach. After your short beach run along the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, you’ll be back on the water heading outside the kelp bed towards the infamous Steamer Lane, and back towards the Yacht Harbor, before finishing it off with a sand sprint to the finish in front of the Dream Inn. The proposed course is shown below.
The Duel-athon will be split into Elite and various age group divisions to be announced soon. Covewater is stoked to be a sponsor of the event.
